I guess
you can say when I was young, fast food was something of a luxury for me and my
family and I really didn’t know much about them because there weren’t very many
places like that in the early 70’s on the side of town where I grew up. Don’t get
me wrong, there was the occasional burrito stand or a frosty freeze on the
other side of town along with the one McDonald’s that we knew of but, those two
were only vaguely thought about because we didn’t have money for those types of
luxuries. We did get to eat at the local Denny’s or the Chinese Garden restaurant
every once in a while but truly the best I can remember about eating fast food
was the food from the snack bar at the baseball park after one my games or
practice and that was only when I shagged enough foul balls for twenty five
cents apiece they paid when you returned the balls to the snack bar, I always
turned mine in for food. I can still remember the smells of all the different
types of foods like French fries, hamburgers, deep fried burritos, and of course
my personal favorite, taquitos smothered in cheese and hot sauce. Those were
the days.
Even
still, I prefer the good old fashioned meals made at home; they are authentic
and are so much healthier for you. With home cooking you know exactly what
you’re getting and who made it. You hear so many stories about people getting
sick because the fast food/restaurant cooks did not prepare the food correctly.
Of course it may happen from home cooked meals but not nearly as much.
Unfortunately,
fast food meals are convenient. Most parents work and get home so late that
they are too tired or don’t have time to cook at home. There are so many places
to choose from you could probably eat out every day for two weeks and not have
to eat the same thing twice in those two weeks.
